Before I got here, I had never run more than a kilometre in my life, now I have a habit of running at least 3 or 4 times a week!
How has this happened!? I used to be so lazy!
Well, I would say it is almost entirely down to the beautiful scenery. Just a few minutes from my house, I can either run along Avenida Rendeiras, the road that goes past the Lagoa and is level with it so that it almosts feels as if you are on the lake itself. Or, Costa da Lagoa, a quieter road that turns into a little trail, brimming with nature and also with beautiful views of the Lagoa.
It’s so nice to run on the trail that I barely even need to listen to my music, just to the sound of my feet hitting the gravelly ground while I breathe in the fresh air. On Costa de Lagoa I have seen so many monkeys, and on my last run on Rendeiras I even saw a tiny little penguin visiting Lagoa.. the first penguin I have ever seen in the wild! This island really is so magical.
In my last week I made sure to take a few photos of my perfect running routes, and this post is just an excuse to show them off really…so here they are!
Let’s just hope I can find somewhere beautiful to continue this healthy habit when I return back to England!
